St. Louis Ambush Play Two In Mexico This Weekend

by St. Louis Ambush

The St. Louis Ambush (3-3) travel to Mexico for two games this weekend, facing the Soles de Sonora (2-5) on Friday, January 3 at 9:00 p.m. CST and the Monterrey Flash (6-0) on Sunday, January 5 at 5:05 p.m. CST. Both games are the only scheduled matches against each of the respective opponents for the 2019-20 regular season.

After starting the season 0-3, the Ambush bounced back to triumph in their next three games, the most recent being a 7-6 win over the Kansas City Comets on New Year’s Eve at the Family Arena. The team now faces the task of keeping that winning streak alive as they kick off a three-game road swing that starts in Sonora on Friday and ends in Milwaukee on January 12.

Sonora will be looking to bounce back from an 8-7 loss to San Diego in their last outing, while Monterrey will be looking to remain the only undefeated team in the Major Arena Soccer League after winning their first six contests.

Ahead of their road trip to Mexico, the Ambush today announced two roster moves, re-signing defender Niko Karidis and adding goalkeeper Jason Norsic. Karidis had been on the team’s active roster since the beginning of the season, was released on December 27 to make roster space and was re-signed today. Per league and team policies, additional details of the signings were not disclosed.

Norsic is a veteran who has experience with nearly every St. Louis professional indoor soccer club since his college days including the St. Louis Steamers (reserve roster 2005-06), St. Louis Illusion (2008-10), Illinois Piasa (2010-13), and the Ambush (reserve roster 2014-15). He was also a member of the 2007 US National Arena Soccer Team. He is a St. Louis area native who hails from nearby Troy, Illinois. Norsic’s collegiate soccer career was split between Southwestern Illinois College (2000-02) and McKendree University (2004-05).

Norsic also has extensive coaching experience at the club, collegiate, semi-pro and professional levels and has coaching diplomas from the United Soccer Coaches (formerly National Soccer Coaches Association of America). He is currently the Director of Goalkeeping for the Fire and Ice Soccer Academy.

To clear roster space for the new additions, injured defender Magui (knee) and forward Oitomeia (foot) have been moved to the injured list.

Following their two games in Mexico, the Ambush square off with the Milwaukee Wave on Sunday, January 12 at 1:07 p.m. at the UW-Milwaukee Panther Arena. The next Ambush home game is slated for Friday, January 17, when Utica City FC visits the Family Arena for a 7:35 p.m. match.

Single game tickets for the 2019-20 campaign are now on sale and can be purchased at the Family Arena box office or at ticketmaster.com. Groups of 10 or more can purchase their discounted tickets by calling the Ambush office at 636-477-6363.
