by St. Louis Ambush

The St. Louis Ambush have added Nigerian forward Qudus Lawal, Jr. to their roster, the team announced today. Per league and team policies, no further details of the deal were disclosed.

Lawal came to the United States from Nigeria in 2011 as a high school senior. He played at Mather High School in Chicago, helping his team win the first state championship for a Chicago public high school team in 37 years.

Qudus has several years of outdoor soccer experience, having played for the Seattle Sounders FC 2, Wilmington Hammerheads, Chicago FC United, RWB Adria and Fresno FC.

Ambush CEO Shelly Clark said, “In our first week with our new ownership group we’ve been able to identify areas of focus for the organization; this signing is a direct result of those efforts.”

Ambush head coach Hewerton extoled Lawal’s offensive skills saying, “I am super excited to have Qudus with us. I’ve been watching him play for few years in the leagues in Chicago and in the USL. He is a physical and dangerous player offensively.”

Lawal said he is eager to join his new team. He said, “I’m excited to be here and looking forward to rep the Ambush name well on and off the field.”

Lawal will be eligible to play this weekend when the Ambush host the I-70 rival Kansas City Comets Sunday afternoon at 3:05 p.m. CST. Following Sunday’s game, the Ambush continue their home stand when they welcome the Tacoma Stars to the Family Arena Friday, December 27 at 7:35 p.m. CST. Following that match, the Comets return for a New Year’s Eve matinee affair on Tuesday, December 31 at 3:05 p.m. CST.
