Home Baseball Do Not Let Yelich Beat You

Do Not Let Yelich Beat You

by Aaron Mullins

The Cardinals are about to take on the Milwaukee Brewers for a three game series in St. Louis. The Cardinals need to do one thing. Avoid Christian Yelich at all costs.

Yelich is following up his NL MVP season with an even stronger year. Yelich currently leads the NL in AVG, OBP, SLG, and OPS to go along with 41 home runs.

What’s even more impressive? His numbers against the St. Louis Cardinals. In 41 plate appearances against St. Louis he has 8 HR, 19 RBI, a .387 AVG, and an OPS of 1.730. His numbers against St. Louis are his best against any opponent.

How do we combat this?  Walk him. If the game is in control pitch to him, but if he can make a difference you have to walk him.

POLL QUESTION OF THE DAY: How many intentional walks will the Cardinals issue Yelich in the upcoming series with the Brewers?

If the Cardinals want to win against Milwaukee they need to stay away from Yelich. The Brewers have been slowly losing a grip on the NL Central race, so the Cardinals need to take advantage of this.

St. Louis and Chicago are tied for the NL Central lead with Milwaukee currently 2.0 GB. A 5.0 game lead over Milwaukee could be huge for the Cardinals if they were to sweep the upcoming series.

Dakota Hudson takes on Zach Davies in game one.

Michael Wacha takes on Gio Gonzalez in game two.

Adam Wainwright takes on Adrian Houser in game three.

How do you think the Cardinals will fare in this series?
