Welcome back to another edition of New Artist Spotlight. Today we will be taking a look at the album Story Of My Life by Kevin West.
Kevin West is a singer songwriter based out of Los Angeles, California. He has been around many different kinds of music over the years such as Blues, Hip-Hop, Metal, and even Jazz. On June 15th, West is set to debut his 5th studio album entitled Story Of My Life.
Here’s a little snippet of West’s thoughts about his upcoming album. “My songs are about my real life experiences and I think that gives it an honest quality people can relate to. The level of musicianship on THIS project is the best I have achieved so far in this long life of music I have been living.”

The lead single is titled “Best Of Mine” and it kicks off the album with a bang. It has a wonderful Americana feel to it and is the perfect song to listen to on a drive through the country. I absolutely love the background vocals on this track as well.

The next track “One Too Many” sounds like a mid 90’s country song. To me it sounds similar to “Thunder Road” by Garth Brooks. I think it’s a great track that could be a good song to jam out with at a concert.
I think my favorite song on the album is the next song on the list titled “My Only Sunshine” and you can probably guess that it’s a love song. I think the lyrics aren’t too cheesy and they really do feel legitimate. Good use of instrumentation on this track. Steel guitar is very prevalent and the guitar solos are very smooth and add a lot to the song. The longest song on the album is “Sweet Innocence” which is very piano heavy softer song. Something very noticeable about West’s songs are that they use many different vocal tracks and they all work very well.
The title track “Story Of My Life” is another slower song that sticks with you from the get go. West does a great job of really adding another layer to this song just from his vocal quality. His voice makes you feel what the words are saying. The last track on the album is titled “Not For Nothin” and I can see the Blues influence take over on this track. Love the use of horns to go along with the smooth guitar licks. Definitely a song work checking out.
Overall I’d say this is an incredibly good album. It has elements of Country and Blues along with Americana and it works so well.
