Welcome to another New Artist Spotlight. In this entry we have the two song EP Titled K.O.T.H from J’Moris.
J’Moris was born in Ft. Worth, Texas where he was soon introduced to the drugs, pimps and thugs that ruled the area. In his own words, “My family moved to Hillsboro texas to try and get away, but to no avail.”
He says his brother was a huge influence on him to get out of the street life, saying “The lessons he taught me molded me into who I am today and also gave me the opportunities to graduate high school.”
The lead single K.O.T.H (King Of The Hill) relies on a killer beat and solid vocal performance from J’Moris. I think he says it best when he talks about the single, “ KOTH just embodies my summer mentality. Good vibes, good grinds, & showing love. Some of my people came home, Frenemies exposed themselves, & I couldn’t be happier. Black diamonds come from pressure…. My cuz Marcese home, my bro Don home, free Uncle Monkey. You can’t be a king until you conquer your own hill…learn from the battles and overcome…” – J’Moris
The song “Ball” lacks the same type of intrigue that “K.O.T.H” has. Even on the Spotify page for the EP, it lists the pair as just a single. I feel that Ball is just a throw in to the much stronger “K.O.T.H”. I’m sure others will find enjoyment in both tracks but I find myself being a little disappointed in “Ball” wanting to find the same magic that “K.O.T.H” offered.
It’s a short EP but there is certainly enjoyment to be had. I’m curious to see what more J’Moris will put out in the near future.
Ranking – 7/10
