Saint Louis 78, Richmond 48

Sunday, February 17, 2019 | 2 p.m. (CST)

Chaifetz Arena | St. Louis, Mo.

THE BASICS

• Jordyn Frantz recorded her career scoring high for a second consecutive game, and Saint Louis rolled to a 78-48 Atlantic 10 Conference victory over Richmond Sunday afternoon at Chaifetz Arena.

• SLU won for a seventh time in nine games and improved its records to 13-13 overall and 8-5 in the A-10. Richmond fell to 7-18, 4-8.

• Frantz tallied a game-high 25 points on 9-of-14 shooting that included a 4-of-8 effort from beyond the arc. Now with 203 career 3-pointers, she surpassed Jenny Vliet for second place on the Billikens’ career 3-pointers list (203). Frantz has 66 treys this year, supplanting Harmonie King as SLU’s record holder for 3-pointers by a senior.

• Kerri McMahan (6-of-10 FG) scored a season-high 15 points and tied Ciaja Harbison for game-high honors with five assists. Harbison also turned in 14 points, a career- and team-high nine rebounds and a game-high four steals.

FIRST QUARTER

• After Saint Louis took a 2-0 lead, Richmond rattled off nine straight points for a 9-2 advantage.

• Following a timeout, Frantz canned a 3-pointer, Flowers hit a short bucket, and Harbison made a layup and two free throws to put the Billikens in front 11-9.

• The Spiders and Billikens traded four-point mini-runs, and it was 15-13 SLU with 1:35 remaining.

• A 3-pointer gave Richmond a one-point edge, but Frantz connected from 3-point distance again just inside a minute to give Saint Louis a lead it would not relinquish, 18-16.

SECOND QUARTER

• The Billikens built the margin to eight points three times before McMahan’s layup with 5:34 left boosted the lead into double digits for good, 31-21.

• SLU led by as many as 14 points twice before settling for a 39-28 halftime advantage.

SECOND HALF

• The Bills began the third quarter with a 9-0 run for their first 20-point advantage, 48-28, at the 6:14 mark.

• Saint Louis went on to outscore Richmond 21-4 in the period to build a 60-32 cushion.

• The Billikens’ largest fourth-quarter margin was 31 points.

BILLIKEN NOTABLES

• The Billikens shot 46.7 percent (28-of-60) from the field, their highest mark in an A-10 game this season, and 43.8 percent (7-of-16) from 3-point distance.

• Saint Louis shot a season-best 88.2 percent (15-of-17) from the free throw line.

• SLU out-rebounded Richmond 44-29.

• The Bills’ 39 first-half points and 78 total points are their season highs in an A-10 game.

• The four points allowed by Saint Louis in the third quarter are the fewest scored by a Billiken opponent in any quarter this season.

• Jordyn Frantz scored 20 or more points for a seventh time this season, and third consecutive game. She has 72 points over the last three contests. Frantz moved into 16th place on SLU’s career scoring list with 1,176 points.

• Kerri McMahan has scored in double figures in five of the last eight games, averaging 9.5 points during that stretch.

• In the last five games, Ciaja Harbison has 19 steals and has pulled down seven or more rebounds four times. Harbison has scored in double figures in 21 consecutive games.

• Brooke Flowers blocked six shots to lift her season total to 54, tying Arlene Lampe (1983-84) for third place on SLU’s single-season list. Flowers added eight points and eight rebounds.

• Evan Zars led the Billikens with four offensive rebounds, part of her total of seven boards.
