THE BASICS

• Jordyn Frantz and Ciaja Harbison combined for 33 points, and Saint Louis outscored George Mason 22-9 in the third quarter on its way to a 60-53 Atlantic 10 Conference victory Thursday night at Chaifetz Arena.

• The Billikens improved to 9-12 overall and evened their A-10 mark at 4-4 at the halfway point of the league schedule. George Mason, which saw its three-game winning streak snapped, fell to 11-9, 3-4.

• Frantz did much of her damage in the first half, scoring 12 of her team-high 17 points in the first 20 minutes. Harbison carried the load in the second half, netting all 16 of her points following intermission.

 

FIRST QUARTER

• George Mason scored the first four points, but Saint Louis answered with a 7-0 run to go on top 7-4.

• Mason pulled even twice, 7-7 and 9-9, before Kendra Wilken’s jumper gave SLU the first-quarter lead for good, 11-9. The Billikens were on top 14-13 at the buzzer.

 

SECOND QUARTER

• Flowers made a layup and Frantz buried a 3-pointer early in the period to put Saint Louis ahead 19-13.

• The Billikens led 24-20 with 4:17 remaining, but the Patriots tallied the last eight points of the quarter and took a 28-24 advantage to the locker room.

 

THIRD QUARTER

• SLU came out strong with an 11-4 run, including six points from Harbison, and led 35-32 with 6:00 left.

• Mason knotted the score at 37 at the 4:12 mark, but Saint Louis took command the rest of the way.Kerri McMahan ignited a 9-0 spurt with a three-point play, and it was 46-37 Billikens heading into the fourth quarter.

 

FOURTH QUARTER

• The Patriots whittled the margin to four, 50-46, with 5:41 to play, but buckets by McMahan and Harbison on SLU’s next two possessions pushed the lead back to eight at the 4:12 mark.

• Mason pulled to within six twice, the second time a 56-50 count with 2:06 remaining. However, Harbison and McMahan made two free throws apiece on either side of a defensive stop to give the Bills a 10-point cushion inside of a minute, and another defensive stop sealed the win.

 

BILLIKEN NOTABLES

• Saint Louis out-rebounded George Mason 37-34.

• Frantz’s 17 points included a 3-of-6 effort from 3-point range. She added five rebounds.

• Harbison finished 7-of-14 from the field and led all players with six assists.

• Brooke Flowers turned in eight points, nine rebounds (game-high five offensive) and six blocks.

• Evan Zars tied Flowers for game-high honors with nine rebounds, including three offensive boards.
