After a successful opener three weeks ago, Arch Rival Roller Derby (ARCH) rings in the new year with the continuation of their local campaign this Saturday night at Midwest Sport Hockey.
The 6:30 pm doubleheader begins with the Rebel Skate Alliance (1-0) tussling with ARCH defending local champs the Stunt Devils (0-1). The back-half features a clash between longtime rivals the Smashinistas (1-0) and the M-80s (0-1).
The action takes place at the flat-track located at Queeny Park (570 Weidman Rd., Ballwin, MO). Discounted online tickets are available in advance at this link.
RSA returned after a four-year hiatus in mid-December and opened eyes with a powerful 245-145 win over the M-80s. Jammers Darth Tator, Boba Flash and Admiral Aggbar aggressively attacked the packs while blockers Endorable!, Titanium Falcon, SITH HAPPENS, Lethal Dose, Wookie Monster, Zombie Plagueis, Spock N’ Roll, Jabba the Butt, Han Rolo and Storm Bruiser effectively built the walls for scoring.
Meanwhile, the Stunts aim to even their record after their 212-94 setback to the Smashies at the opener. Jamming will be paced by Scarrie Fisher, Zoe Hell and Toni Smaxton while being supported by blockers Reese Wither(n’ Die) Spoon, Zooma Thurman, Kill-ya Knightly, Rhonda Lousey, Ginger Assassin, Sir Ian McKillin’, Fast ‘n’ Lucy Liu, Nunchucks Norris and Glenn Close But No Cigar.
In the nightcap, the Smashinistas look to keep their record unblemished as jammers Olive Smashin’, Frowntown, Smashing Violet and Skeevie Nicks are complimented by blockers Cloak N’ Drag-Her, Smashbird, Nigel Smashberry, chill beans, Smash Money, WyldeSyde, Gnarley Carbsmashian, Regrets, Smash Me Ousside, The Monster Smash, Regrets and Smashsquatch.
The M-80s will try to regroup after last month’s loss and will use the rotation of L’Oakey Doki, Lucy Fir, Owl Wing It! and Kamp Kwitcherbitchin in the jammer slot while blockers Merit Badger, Trampfire, Special Brownies, Scouts Horror, Slipknot, Curl Scout, Crumbledore, Slam Shakusky, S’More Cowbell and Wood Bang.
The four teams compete in a round-robin style, six event regular season that concludes in early April. The two factions that finish with the higher winning percentage of the quartet compete for League’s trophy later that month.
