Aaron’s Wednesday Wish-List – Week One

by Aaron Mullins

Welcome to a new segment I’m trying out. Aaron’s Wednesday Wish-List will encompass St. Louis area sports and what I’d hopefully change if a genie granted me three wishes. So, if a genie showed up, here are my this is what I would wish for. Don’t worry everybody, there won’t be any overlap if I can help it. Let’s get started.

#1. Cardinals Don’t Sing the Blues

On paper right now, the Cardinals look really good. After trading for Paul Goldschmidt, the Cardinals arguably have the potential for 4 different 30 home run hitters.  The starting rotation has as much depth as any team in the National League. The addition of Andrew Miller makes the bullpen look better as well. With that being said… The Blues looked really good on paper going into this season. And we have seen how that’s turned out. The Blues sit at 15-18-4 on the season. If the Cardinals come out of the gate with this result, the fans will not be happy.

#2. Everybody starts playing like O’Reilly

Speaking of the Blues, what on Earth is happening there? I have a feeling that if you polled the fans, the only guy who wouldn’t be on the trade block is Ryan O’Reilly. He leads the team in points by a fair amount. The signing has certainly paid off in terms of his production, but unfortunately for him, the entire team behind him has been mediocre. If the rest of the team could play up to where O’Reilly is, maybe they end up over .500 on the year. I think it’s safe to say that even a wish won’t get this team to the playoffs this season.

If you could keep just one player for the St. Louis Blues, who would it be? If your choice is not selected please comment below your pick. #STLBlues

#3. The Cardinals sign Bryce Harper

I feel like some of you saw this coming. And at this point it might take a wish for this to happen. The idea of Dexter Fowler being the full time right fielder going into 2019 has split the fan base. Some people like myself are okay with the idea, but if the Cardinals were able to upgrade the position, I’d be on board with that too. Bryce Harper fits the bill for an upgrade at right field. Now with that comes some issues regarding the backup options. You’d then have Fowler, Jose Martinez, and Tyler O’Neill looking for playing time. But the Cardinals have made a point to say they are serious about winning in 2019. Adding Goldschmidt and Miller shows that, but adding Harper makes them a favorite, not just a contender. It also gives them some security moving into the future in case the Cardinals don’t re-sign Goldschmidt and Ozuna after this season. If a genie gave me three wishes, this would certainly be a wish I’d have to make. I’m not the only person who thinks it could happen though.

Thanks to major technological innovations in the New Year, I was able to call into @MLBNetwork… from January 2020! This is where you’ll learn not only what happened in @MLB in the year 2019 but also some winning Mega Millions numbers. https://t.co/2LiyJv5fgf

What about you? If a genie gave you three wishes to address your favorite sports teams, what would you do? I guess I should have guessed for Mike Trout.. Hmm… Oh well. Trying to remain a little realistic too I guess. Let me know your thoughts. Send me a tweet @AaronArchCity.

Thanks for Reading
