Oilers Win Fifth Straight and Move Into First Place

by

TULSA, OK – The Tulsa Oilers (12-2-4) topped the Allen Americans (4-14-2) 3-2 Tuesday night at the BOK Center to move into first place in the Mountain Division standings.

The Oilers jumped out to a 1-0 first period lead when Sunday’s game-winning goal scorer, Kyle Rhodes, buried a wrist shot under the crossbar 7:54 into the game. Tulsa outshot Allen 11-4 in the opening frame, but the highlight of the period was Oilers goaltender Evan Fitzpatrick’s paddle save across his goal line robbing Andrew Miller of a goal.

The Americans tied the game early in the second period when former Oilers forward Alexandre Ranger deflected a shot from the point past Fitzpatrick. Tulsa regained the lead, when Jared Thomas ripped a power play goal through a screen to extend his goal streak to three games. Again, Allen answered, as Adam Miller cleaned up a rebound to tie the score at 2-2. Scott Henegar put the Oilers back in front before the end of the middle period, when he tapped in a centering pass from Alex Kromm.

Allen peppered Fitzpatrick with 12 shots in the final frame, but the Oilers held on to their 3-2 lead to win their fifth straight game for the first time since October 2016. Tulsa’s rookie goalie boosted his record to 7-0-2 to start his pro career.

Tulsa next travels to Kansas City for back-to-back meetings with the Mavericks Friday and Saturday at Silverstein Eye Centers Arena. Both games are scheduled for 7:05pm and can be heard on the Sports Animal radio network or www.tulsaoilers.com, with pregame coverage starting at 6:45pm. Fans can also watch the game on ECHL.TV.
