Oilers Edge Mavericks for Fourth Straight Win

by

TULSA, OK – The Tulsa Oilers (11-2-4) capped off a perfect holiday week with a 3-2 win Sunday over the Kansas City Mavericks (11-3-1) at the BOK Center. It was the Oilers’ fourth straight win and seventh win in their last eight games to come within one point of first place in the Mountain Division.

The Mavericks opened the scoring 3:05 into the opening frame when Mike Panowyk buried a rebound at the edge of the Oilers crease. Tulsa tied the score when Jared Thomas blasted a one-timer from the top of the right circle seven minutes in. The Oilers gained their first lead later in the frame when Ian McNulty re-directed a shot from the point for a power play tally. But Matt Robertson had an answer for Kansas City, when he scored on a breakaway before the end of the period.

Tulsa regained the lead late in the second period when Kyle Rhodes blasted a shot from the right wing boards right after an Oilers power play ended.

The Oilers protected that lead the rest of the way during a scoreless final stanza. Devin Williams stopped 29 of 31 Mavericks shots for his fifth win of the season.

The Oilers return to action Tuesday when they welcome the Allen Americans to the York Plumbing Ice at the BOK Center at 7:05pm. Tulsa then travels to Kansas City for back-to-back meetings with the Mavericks next Friday and Saturday at Silverstein Eye Centers Arena.
