THE BASICS
• Jordyn Frantz scored a career- and game-high 23 points, but Cincinnati edged Saint Louis 51-50 Sunday afternoon at Chaifetz Arena.
• Cincinnati snapped a two-game skid and improved to 3-2, while Saint Louis fell to 1-2.
• Frantz was 5-of-7 from beyond the arc, tying her career high for 3-point field goals.
FIRST QUARTER
• Both offenses struggled early. Cincinnati led 4-3 at the media timeout (4:09).
• The Bearcats began clicking and built a 13-3 advantage. Myia Clark’s steal and layup made it 13-6 at the end of one.
SECOND QUARTER
• Cincinnati’s lead remained between three and seven points until Frantz connected from deep on two straight possessions to pull the Billikens to within one, 23-22.
• The Bearcats answered with a 3-pointer of their own, but buckets by Frantz and Ciaja Harbison produced a 26-26 deadlock at intermission.
THIRD QUARTER
• Saint Louis was forced to play catch-up again after Cincinnati tallied the first six points of the second half.
• Another Frantz triple capped a 7-2 run that narrowed UC’s lead to 34-33. Later, Frantz hit two from the stripe and Harbison added another for a 36-36 stalemate.
• A late layup gave the Bearcats a 38-36 lead heading into the final 10 minutes.
FOURTH QUARTER
• After Amber Lindfors scored on SLU’s first possession to tie it, Cincinnati scored six of the next eight points to go on top 44-40.
• A driving basket by Evan Zars and Frantz’s fifth trey pushed the Billikens ahead 45-44 at the 6:06 mark.
• Frantz answered a Cincinnati field goal with two free throws, and Harbison connected from close range for a 49-46 Saint Louis lead with 2:54 remaining.
• After the Bearcats scored twice in a 17-second span to regain the lead, Frantz made it 50-50 with a free throw with 1:02 to play.
• Following an empty possession by both teams, UC’s Antoinette Miller drew a foul with 4.1 seconds left. Miller made the first free throw but missed the second, allowing Saint Louis to advance the ball to midcourt after a timeout.
• Frantz drove the lane, but her potential game-winner rolled off at the buzzer.
BILLIKEN NOTABLES
• Kendra Wilken led the Billikens with a career-high seven rebounds, including a career-high five offensive boards.
• Amber Lindfors recorded a game-high five blocks, just one shy of her career best.
• Ciaja Harbison led SLU with five assists.
