Saturday, Sept. 29, 2018
Dayton, Ohio (Baujan Field)

RECAP
Saint Louis and Dayton each scored twice in the second half as the teams played to a 2-2 draw Saturday at Dayton’s Baujan Field. It was the Atlantic 10 Conference opener for the Billikens and Flyers.

Saint Louis moves to 3-1-4 overall and 0-0-1 in A-10 play, while Dayton moves to 4-2-4 and 0-0-1.

Leo Novaes had a hand in both Billiken goals. In the 59th minute, he assisted on John Klein’s goal when Novaes’ initial shot caromed off the goal post. Klein was there to put it home to make it a 1-0 lead for the Billikens.

Several minutes later, Novaes gave SLU a 2-0 advantage when he buried a free kick after a Dayton player was issued a caution.

However, Dayton answered a little more than a minute later to trim the SLU lead to 2-1. Dayton scored the equalizer in the 77th minute. The Billikens managed a 6-1 edge in shots in the two overtime sessions, but the score remained 2-2 after 110 minutes of play.

Saint Louis outshot Dayton 18-10 and had an 8-2 edge in corner kicks.

The Billikens are back in action on Wednesday when they travel to Kingston, Rhode Island, to take on the Rhode Island Rams in A-10 play.
