Cardinals Place Jedd Gyorko On DL; Recall Adolis Garcia From Memphis

The St. Louis Cardinals announced today they have placed veteran infielder Jedd Gyorko (JERK-oh) on the 10-day disabled list with a left groin strain.  Rookie outfielder Adolis García (ah-DOLE-lees) was recalled from Memphis (AAA).

Gyorko, 29, was removed from Tuesday night’s game following a double in the eighth inning.  The right-handed hitting infielder, who has started 20 games at third base in August, is batting .267 with 11 home runs and 43 RBI this season.  In 24 games in August, Gyorko is batting .325 with 3 HR and 12 RBI, posting monthly highs in hits (25), runs (16) and doubles (6).

García, 25, has played in 112 games at Memphis, batting .256 with 22 home runs, 71 RBI, 25 doubles and stole 10 bases.  He made his Major League debut on August 8 in Miami and played in five games for St. Louis going 1-for-11 with two outfield starts.

García will be in St. Louis and active for tonight’s game against the Pirates.  Gyorko will be eligible to return from the disabled list on September 8.
