Cardinals Place Kolten Wong On 10-Day DL; Recall Patrick Wisdom

The St. Louis Cardinals announced prior to tonight’s series opener against the Pittsburgh Pirates that they have placed second baseman Kolten Wong on the 10-day disabled list with a left hamstring strain, retroactive to August 26, and recalled infielder Patrick Wisdom from Memphis (AAA).

Wisdom, 27, is batting .288 (107-371) with 15 home runs and 61 RBI in 107 games for Memphis, which recently repeated as Pacific Coast League American Southern Division champions. Wisdom was purchased from Memphis on August 11 and played in nine games for the Cardinals, batting .333 (4-12) with a home run and three RBI.  He had played in 747 career minor league game before his Major League debut.

Wong, who injured his hamstring while running out a ground ball in Saturday’s game in Colorado, was batting .244 (74-303) with eight home runs and 32 RBI in 110 games for St. Louis. Since the All-Star Break, the 27-year-old’s .342 average (25-73) is the 10th-highest in the National League, while his .362 August mark (21-58) ranks 5th in the league.
