Poncedeleon impresses but Cards fall 2-1

by Aaron Mullins

The Cardinals lose the only way they know how. By scoring no runs and squandering a late lead.

I like many of you… Are over it.

Daniel Poncedeleon went 7 innings of no hit ball but doesn’t come out for the 8th inning. He had 116 pitches. There was good reason. Jordan Hicks comes in and loses the combined no-hitter, but he gets through the 8th.

And then Norris comes in. Ozuna makes a wonderful play for out number two and now it’s time to take care of business.

Single, single, walk, single. Game over.

The Cardinals now sit at 50-50. Too many times do the starters pitch well only for the bullpen to fail, or the offense to struggle. And on some occasions… Both.

It’s becoming more and more frustrating to watch this team as of late. Poncedeleon deserved better for his performance tonight. I hope we see more of him moving forward. He pitched his heart out. Hats off to him.

Thanks for reading.
