Cardinals Legends Take On Frontier All-Stars In Home Run Derby

by

Tonight’s derby offers the first time in Frontier League history that MLB players will face off with Frontier League All-Stars. The roster has been released for tonight’s derby at Carshield Field in O’Fallon, MO with the Cardinals Legends verses.the  Frontier League Home Run Derby.  Each round will be 90 seconds timed. The Cardinals Legends are represented with some very familiar names.

Ray Lankford played for the Cardinals 1990-2001 and again in 2004.  Lankford has 238 career home runs, and is in the top ten in Home Runs (3rd), Runs Batted In (8th), Base On Balls (4th) in all of Cardinals history.  Lankford was inducted into the St. Louis Cardinals Hall of Fame with Vince Colemen in 2018.

Rick Ankiel is a household name for many Cardinals fans for many reasons.  He was one of the top Cardinals pitching prospects in the late 90’s and is remembered for his breakdown in the 2000 NLDS where he pitched 5 wild pitches in one inning.  Rick went back to the minors and tried to comeback as a pitcher and made his MLB last pitching appearance in 2004.  Rick came back in 2007, this time as an outfielder and went on to become a good hitter and a great outfielder.  Rick hung up his cleats as a New York Met in 2013.  He shares a record with one of the greatest ever, Babe Ruth, as one of the only other players with more than 10 wins and over 50 Home Runs.  Rick has 13 career wins and 76 career home runs.

Mark “Hard Hittin” Whiten played for the St. Louis Cardinals from 1993-1994.  Mark is known for his 4 home run, 12 RBI game versus the Reds in 1993.  He went on to hit 25 home runs and had 99 RBI’s for the Cardinals in 1993.  Mark hit a total of 105 career home runs from 1990-2000.

Jim Edmonds was originally announced to participate in the derby but due to an injury he was unable to. He will be in attendance doing on the field PA work. Filling his place in the line up is former Cardinal, Hazelwood East graduate and a Rascals coach Kerry Robinson.  Robinson played from 1998-2006 and had 3 career MLB home runs.
