by

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colorado – The Memphis Redbirds (47-32) led Colorado Springs 7-0 after three-and-a-half innings before the Sky Sox (Brewers) came back and won the game 9-8 via a balk in the bottom of the ninth inning Wednesday afternoon in Colorado Springs, Colo.

With the game tied at 7, Patrick Wisdom had an RBI double in the top of the ninth that scored Tyler O’Neill and gave the Redbirds an 8-7 lead. Colorado Springs tied the game in the home-half with a triple after a throwing error, and the Redbirds issued two intentional walks to load the bases with nobody out. Tommy Layne threw one pitch and was then called for a balk before his next, ending the game.

Wisdom, O’Neill, and Luke Voit all homered for the second-straight game within the first four innings to help the Redbirds to their 7-0 lead. Dating back to the fifth inning of yesterday’s game, the Redbirds clubbed seven home runs in the span of nine innings.

Wisdom finished 3-for-5 with the home run, double, two RBI, and two runs scored, and Wilfredo Tovar was 2-for-5 with two runs and two stolen bases.

Chris Ellis started and threw 5.0 shutout innings before departing after 5.1 frames with four earned runs charged to his name.

All eight Redbirds position player starters had at least one hit in the game.

The Redbirds and Sky Sox finish their four-game series tomorrow night at 7:40 (CT), before the Redbirds head to Iowa for five games ahead of returning to AutoZone Park on July 4 for the 4th of July Celebration, presented by AutoZone.
