Saint Louis University Baseball starting pitcher Miller Hogan was expected to go early and the junior ace for the Billikens did not disappoint. The right-handed pitcher became the highest draft pick in the history of Billiken Baseball after being selected in the sixth round by the Tampa Bay Rays on Tuesday.

Hogan made his mark in the Saint Louis record book after becoming the single-season strikeout king in 2018. He finished with 133 strikeouts on the year, a new record surpassing John Marcum’s 120 from the 1965 season.

Hogan was one of the best pitchers in all of college baseball in 2018 and tossed just 14 walks in 105.2 innings. He was selected as the Atlantic 10 Pitcher of the Year for his efforts on the hill and allowed batters he faced just a .210 average with a 10-4 record.

Hogan completed his Billiken career not only as the single season leader in strikeouts, but tied for the all-time record for wins in a season with 10 in 2018. He finished fifth on the all-time list with 21 victories, fourth in ERA with 2.83 and second overall in strikeouts in his three seasons with 270.

Hogan was a two-time Atlantic 10 Pitcher of the Week in 2018 and a after getting drafted in the 32nd round by the Milwaukee Brewers in 2017. The Overland Park, Kan., native returned in his junior year to become the top pitcher in the conference.

Hogan was drafted 180th overall on Tuesday and became the highest draft pick in the history of Saint Louis University Baseball. Prior to Hogan, James Norwood was taken 199th overall in the seventh round by the Chicago Cubs in 2014.
