Chiefs Shutout Bees 5-0

Peoria, IL – The Peoria Chiefs blanked the Burlington Bees 5-0 on Wednesday night in game three of a five game series. The Chiefs improved to 28-24 overall as the series concludes on Thursday with a double header beginning at 5:00 p.m.

The Chiefs jumped out to an early lead for the second game in a row on Bees starter Luis Madero in the bottom of the first inning. Scott Hurst hit a lead off single and Irving Lopes doubled down the right field line to put two runners in scoring position. Elehuris Montero drove in Hurst on a groundout while Lopez advanced to third with one out as the Chiefs got on the board 1-0. Yariel Gonzalez singled to right to score Lopez for a 2-0 lead.

Peoria added on to the deficit in the bottom of the second. Matt Fiedler singled to lead off the inning followed by a Bryce Denton single up the middle and Jose Martinez single to right to load the bases with nobody out. Hurst grounded into a double play as Fiedler crossed home plate for a 3-0 advantage.

The longball was showcased in the bottom of the third as the margin continued to grow. Elehuris Montero blasted a no doubt solo homer over the berm in left field as lead increased to 4-0.

The Chiefs got an insurance run in the bottom of the seventh against reliever James Ziemba. Hurst was hit by a pitch and Lopez doubled to put two runners in scoring position. With one out, Gonzalez was intentionally walked to load the bases and Dennis Ortega scored Hurst on a sacrifice fly to center for a 5-0 edge.

Guillory (5-3) earned the win throwing seven scoreless innings, only allowing one hit with two walks and five strikeouts. CJ Saylor threw two scoreless innings on one hit and walked no batters while striking out two.

 

Notes…Hurst and Lopez have five-game hit streaks… Every Chiefs player in the batting order besides Ortega recorded a hit…Montero’s home run traveled 428 feet which is the longest at Dozer Park this season… Gonzalez has an eight-game hit streak… The Chiefs are 3-3 on Wednesday….
