WASHINGTON, Pa. — The Gateway Grizzlies (4-0) hammered out seven runs on five hits in the first inning Tuesday night and won their fourth in a row to open the season with an 8-5 triumph over the Washington Wild Things.

Blake Brown got the scoring started with a two-run single that scored Matt Hearn and Cody LivesayTerry McClure drove Brown home on an RBI double before scoring himself on a wild pitch. Jonathan PironBrennan Morgan and Joel McKeithan all added runs of their own.

Washington starter Danny Garmendia lasted just a third of an inning in his Frontier League debut.

Gateway added a run in the third on a colossal McKeithan solo home run over the scoreboard in left-center field — his second big fly of the young campaign.

Washington (2-2) got a Roman Collins three-run homer in the sixth and a Reydel Medina solo shot in the seventh, but Grizzlies relievers retired the final eight Wild Things to bat and survived for the win.

Will Anderson (1-0) picked up the victory and rookie Patrick Boyle earned his first save with a perfect 1 1/3 innings, featuring two strikeouts, to close the ballgame.

Fans can tune in at 5:50 p.m. for the Budweiser Pregame Show to kick off the Grizzlies Media Network’s coverage. The game will air on KJFF (1400 AM), yoradio.com/grizzlies and the Yo Radio app.
