The St. Louis Cardinals have an agreement in place with free-agent closer Greg Holland for a 1-year $14m deal, pending a physical.

Holland missed the 2016 season after Tommy John surgery. Last season he saved a NL leading 41 games for the Rockies and went to his 3rd All-Star game.

holland and STLCards have a deal now. $14M.

The Cardinals will forfeit their second-round pick (59 overall) in the 2018 Draft because Holland turned down the Rockies qualifying offer. They will also lose $500,000 from their international bonus pool.

Greg Holland opened the winter by declining his $15M player option with Colorado and then rejecting the club’s $17.4M qualifying offer. He ends it by accepting a $14M offer from the Cardinals.

Holland has been throwing, but will not be immediately available to start the season.
