Rockets Best Billikens In Second Showdown

by SLU Baseball

KISSIMMEE, Fla. – [BOX SCORE] Saint Louis University Baseball put together a big four-run fourth inning, but was not able to keep Toledo off the board. The Rockets exploded for nine runs in the bottom of the eighth and defeated the Billikens 16-8.

Saint Louis (1-3) trailed after one inning, but the bats came alive in the fourth. Cole Dubet singled to lead-off the inning and came around to score moments later thanks to the bat of Parker Sniatynski. The senior belted his first home run of the year to left center and gave Saint Louis a 2-1 lead with no outs.

After James Morisano popped out, Jake Garella and Nick Reeser put together back-to-back singles to put two on and continue the threat.

Carter Hanford came to the plate after Ryan Hernandez was hit by a pitch and delivered. The senior drilled a two-out single to left with the bases loaded, which scored both Garella and Reeser, and gave his team a 4-1 lead.

Toledo put together a big inning of their own in the bottom of the fifth and took the lead for good. After Riley Campbell singled-in a run, Ross Adolph came to the plate and delivered a three-run home run to right field and gave the Rockets a 5-4 lead.

Connor Lehmann had a solid day through before running into trouble in the fifth. The Belle Mead, N.J. native retired the first two batters in each of the first four innings and eight consecutive before a hit by Corey Tipton on the second at-bat of the bottom of the fifth broke it up.

Toledo posted two more in the sixth thanks to an A.J. Montoya two-RBI single and the Rockets made it a three-run 7-4 lead.

The Billikens hung another on the board in the seventh. Sniatynski tripled to the gap in left center, which scored Dubet, and cut the deficit to 7-5. That was, however, as close as Saint Louis got.

The Rockets, however, were too powerful on the day. Toledo put nine runs on the board in the bottom of the eighth to solidify their lead.

Sniatynski led the Billikens with a 2-4 day at the plate with three RBI. The left fielder has now hit safely in all four games this season. Garella and Hernandez also posted two hits in the contest.

The Billikens will go for their second win of the year on Thursday as they travel to San Antonio next weekend to take-on Notre Dame, Incarnate Word and Purdue. First pitch on Thursday against the Fighting Irish is set for 3:00 p.m.
