Billikens MBB Rally for 69-55 Win

by Brian Kunderman

Four Billikens scored in double figures as Saint Louis rallied for a 69-55 win over Murray State Tuesdaynight in nonconference men’s basketball action at Chaifetz Arena.

Saint Louis evens its record at 5-5, while Murray State snapped its five-game winning streak and dips to 6-2.

Javon Bess scored a team-high 20 points and added six rebounds and five steals. Hasahn French scored a career-high 16 points and added four blocks to his team-leading total of 23. He is now eighth in school history among freshmen in blocked shots in a season.

Jalen Johnson posted a double-double with 10 points and a career-high and team-season-high 14 rebounds. Davell Roby chipped in 12 points for the Billikens.

Murray State came out of the gates firing, going on top 16-3 at one point early on. SLU slowly chipped away at the deficit, and didn’t grab the lead until Roby buried a trey early in the second half to tie it at 31-all. A little more than two minutes into the second half Roby drained another 3 to put SLU up 36-33. SLU never trailed again as the Billiken outscored the Racers 41-24 in the second half.

Saint Louis travels to Portland, Oregon, to face Oregon State at the Moda Center. Game time Saturday night is 9:30 p.m. (CT).
