DC & Warner Bros. Just Not Willing To Give Up

by Nick Stucker

It has been announced recently this week that The Raid: Redemption and Raid 2 director Gareth Evans is in talks to write and direct a standalone Deathstroke film for DC and Warner Bros.

Earlier this year some pre-production footage of Deathstroke was shown for the upcoming Justice League film; Joe Manganiello will portray the lethal mercenary-assassin. However it will remain to be seem if his character and footage that was shot will make the final cut for the film. Manganiello is also in talks to reprise the role for the recently announced standalone film.

For those that aren’t aware, Deathstroke is a renown mercenary/assassin with enhanced strength and reflexes and one of Batman’s arch enemies, having beaten The Dark Knight in hand-to-hand combat on many occasions (and sometimes even embarrassing him in the process).

It goes to show that DC and Warner Bros. aren’t giving up yet in terms of creating a multi-universe of interconnected films of these titular characters stories. Are they trying to go toe-to-toe with Marvel and their MCU? Or are they just going their own route? For me, it’s a little hard to tell since many of their films, while not necessarily been box office flops, have been just disappointments to the fans (except for Wonder Woman, that’s the only good one).

Deathstroke is just another film added to ever growing list of DCEU films to be released; however no official date has been given and most likely won’t come to the big screen until after 2020, which at this point is the year the film  Green Lantern Corps. will be released. Hopefully we’ll get a better adaptation than the Ryan Reynolds version; of course even he himself takes occasional jabs at how god-awful that film was too.

To catch you up to speed since DC and Warner Bros. tends to keep their lips tight about the release dates of the upcoming DC films and anything DCEU related:

-Justice League, November 17th, 2017

-Aquaman, December 21st, 2018

-Shazam!, April 5th, 2019

-Wonder Woman 2, December 13th, 2019

-Cyborg, 2020

-Green Lantern Corps., 2020

The above films have been confirmed to be released in the next three years, however the Cyborg film has been a little shaky due to how little fan reaction he has gotten for the Justice League film. Other films and television series have been announced, however no commitment dates have been attached to these announcements.
