St. Louis Ambush Head Coach Hewerton Moreira will also be a player for the team during the 2017-18 season. The club previously announced Moreira as new Head Coach in August. Ambush CEO Shelly Clark officially announced today that she has received approval from the MASL for Hewerton to play as well.

As a player, Hewerton (pronounced Everton) is a veteran of 13 professional indoor soccer seasons. He has played for the San Diego Sockers, Milwaukee Wave, Detroit Ignition, Philadelphia KiXX, Chicago Mustangs and the Rampage. He won three championships during his seven seasons with the Wave, where he played for Keith Tozer, the winningest indoor soccer coach of all time.

Hewerton’s value to the team as a player cannot be underestimated, as he’s among the best in the Major Arena Soccer League. Last season, he ranked in the top 15 in the league in points (36), goals (22) and assists (14). The previous season (2015-16), he led the league in assists (29) and was in the top 10 in points (42).

Hewerton coached the Cedar Rapids Rampage United outdoor team two seasons and the indoor Rampage last season. The Rampage United went to the Premier League of America championship semifinals both seasons, while improving the arena Rampage to 12 wins from five a season earlier.

On game days, Assistant Coach Jamie Swanner will handle official Head Coaching duties in accordance with MASL rules regarding player/coaches.

Hewerton will be in action when he and the Ambush face Hewerton’s former team, the Cedar Rapids Rampage in a pre-season match this Saturday, October 14 at 7:05 p.m. CDTat the US Cellular Arena in Cedar Rapids.

The Ambush open their 2017-18 schedule on the road when they face the Kansas City Comets on November 4. The Ambush kick off the home portion of the new season when they host the Milwaukee Wave on Saturday, November 11, 2017 at 7:05 p.m. CST at the Family Arena. The 2017-18 season will be the fifth for the franchise, who has called the Family Arena home since 2013. November 11 is also Veterans Day, and the Ambush will recognize our Veterans during the game. Leading up to the home opener, the Ambush invite fans to the Fan Fest, which will include a free exhibition game at 7:05 p.m. CDT, onSaturday, October 21 at the Family Arena.
