St. Louis Blues sign D Nate Prosser to a two-way deal

According to Jeremy Rutherford, the St. Louis Blues have signed defenseman Nate Prosser to a two-way contract. Prosser, 31, is heading into his ninth NHL season, all of which has been with the Minnesota Wild and their AHL affiliate. Prosser played in 39 games for the Wild last season, scoring two goals and tallying five assists. Prosser also played in three of the Wild’s five playoff games against the Blues this past spring, and recorded one assist.

The signing of Prosser is for depth purposes, as the Blues have plenty of talented players in the defenseman group, but many of which are young. Prosser will be only the second defenseman on the Blues roster 31 years or older, and will provide a good veteran presence for the defenseman group. Prosser obviously isn’t going to be in the lineup every night, but can be called upon when the Blues are in need of a defenseman due to injury or other circumstances.

Prosser spent the 2014 training camp with the Blues, but was reclaimed off of waivers by the Wild. Head coach Mike Yeo also coached Prosser during his tenure in Minnesota, so the two are familiar with each other. The contract length has not been specified, but it is likely for one year. Prosser will likely wear number 39, the number he wore while with the Wild.
