The Gateway Grizzlies evened the three-game series against the Joliet Slammers behind timely hitting and strong pitching Wednesday night at GCS Credit Union Ballpark. FINAL SCORE: Gateway – 6, Joliet – 4.

Gateway starter Vince Molesky set the tone for the game. He allowed only one hit and faced the minimum through the first three innings.
Gateway manufactured its first run of the game on a one-out single by first baseman Ramon Osuna. Osuna added another two RBIs with a two-out home run in the third inning.
After Joliet avoided the shutout with a two-out double by third baseman Danny Zardon, Gateway answered back with two more in the fourth to extend the lead to 5-1.
Joliet made a surge in the late innings. After scoring one run in the seventh inning, the Slammers added two more in the eighth inning to cut the deficit down to just two.

Grizzlies closer Kaleb Earls shut down Joliet in the top of the ninth inning. FINAL: Grizzlies 6, Joliet 4.

Molesky continued his dominance over Joliet by striking out nine and allowing only one walk and four runs over seven innings. He improves his season record to 4-5.

Since the start of July, Molesky has compiled a 2-0 record with a 1.80 ERA. He has struck out 30 batters in 35 innings over that span.

Gateway will resume action Thursday night in the series finale against Joliet. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. All of the action can be heard on the Grizzlies Media Network.
