by

SCHAUMBURG, Ill. — After starting the first inning with four straight hits and a sacrifice fly to take a 3-0 lead, the Gateway Grizzlies (18-43) allowed the Schaumburg Boomers (40-19) to score eight unanswered runs in an eventual 8-4 loss Sunday afternoon.

Blake Brown drove in Matt Hearn and Cody Livesay with a first-inning double, then Ramon Osuna scored Joel McKeithan with a sacrifice fly.

Schaumburg scored twice in the second, once in the third and once more in the sixth to take the lead before tallying four in the seventh to put the contest out of reach.

Ja’Vaun West (2-6) took the loss for the Grizzlies, allowing four runs over 5 2/3 innings. He conceded two hits, struck out three and walked seven.

Hearn had three hits and a walk. McKeithan added a solo homer in the eighth inning, his third homer in only 19 games with Gateway.

Next up, Gateway returns home to GCS Credit Union Ballpark in Sauget. Following an off day Monday, the Grizzlies begin a six-game homestand with a three-game series against the Joliet Slammers. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. Tuesday. All of the action can be heard on the Grizzlies Media Network.
