Redbirds Soar Past Baby Cakes, 7-1

by

MEMPHIS, Tennessee – The Memphis Redbirds scored four runs in the first inning and did not look back in a 7-1 win over the New Orleans Baby Cakes (Marlins) Friday night at AutoZone Park.

Patrick Wisdom was 2-for-3 with a home run, his third in two games, and two RBI, and Carson Kelly had a pair of doubles with Rangel Ravelo also adding two hits. Harrison Bader drove in a pair of runs on a first-inning triple.

Wisdom’s two RBI give him 51 on the season, and the eighth-inning homer was his 16th of the year. Both lead the Redbirds.

On the mound, Josh Zeid started and went 4.0 innings, allowing the game’s lone run in the first. He allowed singles in his other three innings of work but got out unscathed. Kevin Herget came on and pitched 3.0 scoreless innings of relief to pick up the win, giving up just two hits and striking out four. Ryan Sherriff finished the game with a quick ninth inning.

The Redbirds turned three double plays in the game.

The Redbirds and Baby Cakes continue their series tomorrow night at 6:35.
