Massoni, Hranec Homer But Grizzlies Fall

by

EVANSVILLE, Ind. — The Gateway Grizzlies (10-27) scored first, but fell behind in the middle innings and dropped their third straight, 6-2, to the Evansville Otters (19-16) on Thursday night.

Jack Hranec homered over the right-field wall in the second inning, his first professional home run, to give the Grizzlies a 1-0 lead. They held that advantage until the fourth inning, when Evansville scored four times on only one hit (five walks) to go up 4-1.

The Grizzlies’ only other run came on a Craig Massoni solo shot in the sixth. It was his fifth home run of the year and his fourth in the last seven games. Since June 15, Massoni is 9-28 (.321) with four home runs, 10 RBIs and three doubles. He’s also scored six runs.

Dylan Craig (1-4) took the loss for Gateway. He allowed four runs (all earned) in three innings without conceding a hit. Craig walked six and struck out two.

Tanner Cable threw 2 1/3 scoreless innings out of the bullpen with a strikeout.

Next up, the Grizzlies return home to take on the division-leading Florence Freedom in a three-game series at GCS Credit Union Ballpark. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. Friday evening and can be heard on the Grizzlies Media Network. Coverage starts at 6:50 p.m.
