The St. Louis Cardinals announced prior to today’s game that they have activated outfielder/first baseman Jose Martinez (left groin) from the 10-day disabled list and optioned outfielder Randal Grichuk to Palm Beach (A).
Mozeliak said it was an out of the box move with strike zone management a focus for Grichuk.
Martinez, 28, was batting .313 with a homer and 4 RBI in 20 games, ranking among National League rookie leaders in batting, at the time of his injury on May 6. He batted .333 (4-for-12) with a pair of doubles, a home run and 4 RBI in three games with Palm Beach during his injury rehabilitation assignment.
Grichuk is batting .222 with 4 HR’s and 19 RBI in 46 games for the Cardinals this season.
