Josh Zeid, the resilient 29-year-old right-hander who dominated out of the bullpen for Israel at the World Baseball Classic, has landed a minor-league contract with the St. Louis Cardinals.

In this year’s World Baseball Classic, for Team Israel, he appeared in four games (3 in relief), notching 10 scoreless innings while striking out 10 and earning two saves.
Zeid, a former 10th round pick, hasn’t pitched in the big leagues since 2014, spending the last two seasons mostly in Triple-A.
Last year, Zeid bounced between the New York Mets’ affiliates in Double-A and Triple-A, posting a 4.81 ERA and 1.43 WHIP over 15 starts and one relief appearance before joining New Britain of the independent Atlantic League.
Over parts of two seasons in the majors, Zeid managed a 5.21 ERA and 1.55 WHIP over 48 relief appearances, allowing nine home runs while striking out 42 in 48 1/3 innings for the Houston Astros from 2013 through 2014.
