As defending national champions of the Women’s Blue Chip Basketball League (WBCBL), the St. Louis Surge are fully aware that they have a challenging slate ahead in their quest of back-to-back trophies.

On Tuesday, the women’s professional basketball franchise revealed its 10-game WBCBL regular season schedule and also announced its new home venue for 2017, Washington University’s Field House.

The switch to the St. Louis-based hard court results in five consecutive home games beginning June 10.

“The Wash U Field House is exactly the venue our organization has been looking for,” said Surge Owner/General Manager Khalia Collier. “We look forward to an exciting season in partnership with Washington University and to continuing the momentum following our national championship victory.”

The Surge, 13-2 last season, posted three straight seeded upsets at the WBCBL National Championship in August and claimed their second national trophy in the last three seasons.

The franchise has a cumulative record of 38-5 during that span while averaging close to 2,000 spectators at its former home venue, UMSL’s Mark Twain Building.

Those involved with the Surge’s new location are primed for upcoming round ball sparks in front of quadruple-digit audiences that paces the WBCBL nationally.

“We are excited about partnering with the St. Louis Surge,” said Washington University Interim Dirctor of Athletics Chris Peacock about the reveal. “This is a great opportunity to broaden our relationship with the St. Louis community while serving as a host to the Surge and their fans.”

St. Louis plays a majority of their games in the five-team WBCBL Mid West Division and their first five games of the regular season will be road contests.

After a season-opening away game against Mid West foe Iowa Force on May 20, the Surge plays a pair of non-division games in the Sunshine State. St. Louis faces WBCBL Suncoast entrants Orlando Stars and Central Florida Swans Memorial Day Weekend.

The Surge then enters a pivotal road stretch the following week with Show-Me contests against divisional rivals Kansas City Majestic on Saturday, June 3 followed by a next-day tussle with Midwest Flyers Elite in Elsberry.
