Reyes Diagnosed With Full UCL Tear

by Mick Lite

Alex Reyes has been diagnosed with a full tear of his ulnar collateral ligament in his throwing arm after reporting pain during a throwing session on Friday. He will need Tommy John surgery and miss the entire 2017 season.

It has pretty much become the norm for the Cardinals to lose a starter early. In no particular order and some multiple times: Chris Carpenter, Jaime Garcia, Brad Penny, Adam Wainwright, Michael Wacha, Lance Lynn, and now Reyes.

Reyes was supposed to compete with Wacha for the 5th spot in the rotation this year and looked like a nice candidate for Rookie of the Year.

Luckily, Reyes is only 22, and Tommy John surgery has come a long way.
