Evie Lavelle scored her first collegiate goal late in the first half to lift Saint Louis to a record-tying 1-0 victory over ValparaisoFriday afternoon at Nebraska’s Barbara Hibner Stadium. The Billikens (4-0), who got three saves from Mary Niehaus, registered a third consecutive shutout and tied the program record for best start to a season. Valparaiso fell to 2-3.

Saint Louis earned advantages in shots (13-5), shots on goal (7-3) and corner kicks (8-1) … 10 different Billikens took at least one shot, and six Billikens tallied at least one shot on goal … Tori Marshall’s assist was her first point of the season … Mary Niehaus, Kacey Bright, Tori Marshall and Isabella Palazzolo played all 90 minutes … the Billikens tied the 2000 team for the best start in program history … this was the first meeting between SLU and Valparaiso.
