Gateway Bats Go Quiet In Loss To Miners

Sauget, Ill. – The Gateway Grizzlies lost 4-2 on Tuesday night to the Southern Illinois Miners as Gateway’s offense collected just two hits.
Sam Fischer hit a single in the third inning while Zach Lavy blasted a two-run homer in the seventh. Southern Illinois RHP Corey Sessions (1-2) kept the Grizzlies off balance through six innings as he allowed no runs on just a single hit.
Gateway righty Will Landsheft (6-8) allowed four runs in 6.2 innings the mound. He allowed three solo homers and a sac fly in the seventh as the Miners (60-31) jumped out to a 4-0 lead. Aaron Gates, Shane Kennedy and Steve Marino all hit solo shots.
RHP Jon Pusateri relieved Landsheft in the seventh and tossed 1.1 scoreless frames. RHP Will LaMarche pitched a scoreless ninth inning out of Gateway’s bullpen.
The Grizzlies (42-48) could not muster any more offense after Lavy’s two-run shot in the seventh. RHP Evan Mott and RHP Adam Lopez combined to shutout Gateway in the game’s final two innings. Lopez picked up his 11th save of the season.
Gateway and Southern Illinois face off in the middle game of their series on Wednesday night at GCS Ballpark. RHP Vince Molesky (4-8, 4.01 ERA) takes the mound for the Grizzlies against RHP Jarett Miller (8-3, 2.66 ERA) for the Miners. First pitch is at 7:05 p.m.
