Trevor Richards Has Contract Purchased By Miami Marlins

by
Sauget, Ill. – The Gateway Grizzlies are pleased to announce the contract of right-handed pitcher Trevor Richards has been purchased by the Miami Marlins. Richards is a native of nearby Aviston, Ill.
Richards becomes the 38th Grizzlies player signed by a Major League organization and the 19th since manager Phil Warren took over.
“We wish Trevor the best and know that he will embrace this opportunity with the Marlins,” Warren said. “He’s a fierce competitor on the mound and his presence will be felt even after he is gone because of the standards he set for being a member of the Grizzlies.”
Richards, 23, joined the Grizzlies during the 2015 season and put together a stellar rookie campaign after finishing his collegiate career at Drury University. He finished with the best numbers of any Gateway starting pitcher, posting a 3.36 ERA in 14 starts.
“I’m very excited to keep going and could have not done this without the Grizzlies, especially Phil Warren and Randy Martz,” said Richards, who was named Gateway’s “Rookie of the Year” last season as he struck out 84 batters in 91 innings. “It’s surreal as I’ve been working towards this for my entire career,” he said.
In eight starts during 2016, he posted a 3.21 ERA and was among the league leaders in strikeouts.
Richards is scheduled to report to Single-A Greensboro in the Marlins organization.
