Grizzlies Cruise Past Rascals In Fourth Straight Win

by
O’Fallon, Mo. – The Gateway Grizzlies won a fourth straight game as they beat the River City Rascals at CarShield Field on Saturday night, 9-5.

For the second consecutive night, the Grizzlies (19-20) scored in the opening frame. Seth Heck started things with his first homer in professional baseball as he hit a solo shot over the left field fence. River City answered in the bottom half to make it 1-1 on a solo shot by Mike Jurgella against RHP Trevor Richards (3-3), who picked up the victory.

After an RBI single from Josh Bunselmeyer in the second inning, the Grizzlies knocked LHP Jason Ziegler (1-1) out of the game in the fifth. Bunselmeyer started the frame with a double and scored on another double by Logan Davis that banged off the right field wall.

After Cody Livesay singled, Heck drove in another run with a base hit. Craig Massoni then stepped in and laced a single to plate a run. Tyler Tewell chipped in to the big inning with a sacrifice fly to give the Grizzlies a 6-1 lead.

Richards settled down on the mound for another quality outing, as he went six innings while allowing just two runs. RHP Jordan Wellander pitched a scoreless inning for a second straight game and Dakota Smith retired the side in order during the eighth.
The Rascals (19-18) fell further behind as Gateway tacked on a run in the sixth, which was followed by more offense in the seventh. Blake Brown drove in a run with a double while Davis followed it later in the frame with an RBI single of his own.
The Grizzlies have now won nine of 11 games, while the squad’s offense has scored 45 runs combined in the last four nights.
The series concludes on Sunday afternoon with a 4:05 p.m. first pitch at CarShield Field. Gateway tries for a sweep as they send RHP Vince Molesky (2-2, 2.88 ERA) to the mound against River City RHP Tim Koons (2-1, 4.18 ERA).
The game can be heard on the Grizzlies Radio Network, which airs Sunday on www.GatewayGrizzlies.com/Radio. Sam Levitt and Matt Sabados will broadcast the game.
