Just 2:18 seconds into the game, Blues fans were already livid. After Kyle Brodziak and Viktor Svedberg exchanged words and licks, Brodziak was awarded a roughing minor. Brent Seabrook grabbed his first of the series on the power play, as his slapshot found its way past Brian Elliott.
Midway through the first period, Alex Pietranglo held the puck at the Blackhawks’ blue line on their first power play of the night. Pietrangelo slid the puck over to Colton Parayko, who ripped a clapper that beat Crawford to the short-side. Parayko’s tying goal came seven seconds into the power play.
Artemi Panarin won a poked the puck into behind the Blues’ goal line after a faceoff against Paul Stastny. He beat Stastny to the puck before centering Artem Anisimov for the leading goal. The Hawks regained the lead with 1:04 left in the second period.
But the Blues didn’t give up.
They found some fortune five minutes into the final period, as Patrik Berglund’s shot deflected off a Hawks’ defender and deceived Crawford. Berglund’s goal tied it the game.
With less than ten minutes left in the game, Patrick Kane’s stick caught Alex Pietrangelo’s face. Since Pietrangelo was bleeding, Kane had to sit in the box for four minutes (double minor). Some say this was his first time being penalized after doing something illegal.
About 1:30 into the power play, Vladimir Tarasenko fed the puck to David Backes, who was camping to Crawford’s right side. Backes caught the puck, looked up, and found Schwartz open behind Duncan Keith. Schwartz one-timed it into the bottom right corner of the goal to win Game 3 for St. Louis.
The next game will be on Tuesday, at 8:30 p.m. (I know, it stinks). It will be broadcasted on FS-Midwest, NBCSN, and SN.
