Marco Gonzales Will Miss Entire Season

Left-hander Marco Gonzales will have season-ending Tommy John surgery later this week to repair a torn ligament in his left elbow that happened during a Minor League game on March 28th.

The surgery will be performed by Dr. Neal ElAttrache on Friday and will take 12-15 months to recover.

“He’s got a long road ahead of him as far as bouncing back from this injury and figuring out how to keep moving forward with the steps that he had made in Spring Training,” manager Mike Matheny said. “In the meanwhile, somebody else has to jump in and be the guy if we need it.

With Tim Cooney also dealing with shoulder discomfort, we could possibly see Alex Reyes in the majors later in the season. He is currently serving a 50-game suspension and keeping his arm conditioned in extended spring training games.
