After finishing last year’s campaign with a playoff appearance, and re-establishing itself as a gridiron force, the St. Louis SLAM women’s professional tackle football franchise is currently building the “orange and black print” for its upcoming season and Friday’s release of its 2016 schedule adds another layer to the foundation.
The SLAM, who finished first in the Great Plains Division of the Women’s Football Alliance (WFA) last year, begins its eight-game regular season on April 2 with a home opener against Louisville, Kentucky-based Derby City Dynamite.
Road games against divisional rivals Kansas City and Minnesota follow and then the SLAM returns locally for an April 23 tangle with perennial WFA powerhouse Chicago Force.
Away contests against Indianapolis and Derby City continue the docket.
Back-to-back local tussles finish the regular season as the SLAM hosts Minnesota on May 28 and Kansas City one week later. These two games will be imperative as the Great Plains match-ups should determine an overall winner in the three-team division, who would then earn automatic entry into the WFA post-season.
Three of the four SLAM home games will take place at Lindenwood University in St. Charles while the April 23 battle against Chicago will commence at a location yet to be determined.
The SLAM, the inaugural champions of the WFA in 2009, finished last season 6-3 and are determined to claim entry into the post-season mix as the summer progresses.
Season tickets for the SLAM’s four-game home stand can be purchased for under $40 by going to THIS LINK.
