Mizzou Lands Ex-Alabama Receiver Chris Black

by

The Missouri Tiger’s football team added some depth and experience to their receiving core on Monday, landing Alabama transfer Chris Black. Black, a four-star wide receiver will join the wide receiving duo of Nate Brown and J’Mon Moore, hoping to turn the tides of the weakness that was Mizzou wide receivers last year.

Black, a six-foot 192-pounder is expected to be eligible to play for the Tigers in 2016 as a graduate transfer. He was ranked 113th in best prospects and 19th-best wide receiver in Scout.com’s class of 2012. It was then that Black chose to take his talent to Alabama over Florida State and other schools.

The Jacksonville, Florida native hauled in 25 receptions good for 290 yards and two touchdowns in three seasons with the Crimson Tide before suffering an ankle injury which wound up costing him his season last fall. Black will have one year of eligibility remaining.

Black is the second wide receiver to commit to Mizzou in the last week, following the addition of Dominic Collins from Saddleback (California) College. Black and Collins will look to add depth, experience and leadership to a young pair of Mizzou receivers in Brown and Moore, as the two combined for 56 catches for 676 yards and seven touchdowns last season for Mizzou. The lack of experience from freshman quarterback Drew Lock also played a key role in the Tigers’ struggles last fall. Therefore, the addition of Black and Collins will be crucial to the development of not only Brown and Moore, but to Lock as well.
