Berglund’s goals lift Blues past Devils

by
Patrik Berglund scored two, Ty Rattie tipped-in his first NHL goal, Brian Elliott stood on his head, and Scottie Upshall (the king of celebrations) and David Backes registered, too.

The Blues started their four game homestead last night in a battle against the New Jersey Devils.

Half-way through the first, Alexander Steen found Berglund in front of the net. Bergie caught the pass, pivoted, and jammed the puck past Keith Kinkaid off a Devil’s defenseman.

About two minutes late, Bobby Farnham beat Elliott with a post-in shot to tie it at one. Then—two minutes later—Lee Stempniak (former Blue) banged his own rebound under Elliott’s pad to give the Devils a 2-1 lead.

In the second period, Scottie Upshall blindly batted a rebound between Kincaid’s legs to tie it up.

Berglund tallied his second of the night—third of the season—with a tip in late in the third from Alex Pietrangelo’s shot.

The Blues kept the momentum going in the third period.

Robby Fabbri found Kevin Shattenkirk open at the point. Shattenkirk ripped on towards the net, and Rattie got a piece of it before it beat Kinkaid. Rattie’s first goal in his NHL career gave the Blues a 4-2 lead.

With 0:36 seconds left in the game, David Backes fired the puck into an empty net from the defensive zone. The final was 5-2 Blues’ victory.
