NFL Power Rankings Week 3

by

Some shuffling among the top spots as new teams continues to impress.

  1. New England Patriots 3-0 (1)- A clear dominant force in the NFL that surprises nobody. The great teams not only win the games they are suppose to win but blow out the teams that shouldn’t even come close to them and that is what happened last week in one of the most lopsided matches this season. The Jaguars stood no chance as the Patriots role on.
  2. Green Bay Packers 3-0 (2)- Aaron Rodgers continues to dismantle defenses like 2009 Peyton Manning. A leader that could be placed on any team and make them a contender. When he has a balanced team behind him you might as well charter a plan for the Packers to travel to Santa Clara for the Super Bowl.
  3. Arizona Cardinals 3-0 (5)- My internal rankings left the Cardinals off the top ten list because I was unsure of how well this team would play going forward. After winning by 40 points to a team only a few years removed from a Super Bowl appearance, the Cardinals may be a freighting team as the season goes on. A match up against the Rams in week 4 should be similar to the Patriots/Jags in week 3.
  4. Cincinnati Bengals 3-0 (4)- The Bengals went into Baltimore and gave the Ravens a hard fought match with late game heroics by Andy Dalton who a majority of columnist continue to write off. Marvin Lewis is rolling in the negative comments as he clearly saw something the rest of us missed, and it is paying off this year as the Bengals may be the biggest non Patriots contender in the AFC
  5. Denver Broncos 3-0 (3)- A good team falling because the Cardinals are rising. If Peyton Manning was maybe a couple years younger, the Sunday night game against the Lions would not have been as close going into the fourth quarter. This team is no longer feared like it once was but they are still finding ways to win games, and as long as they are winning, it is difficult to be hard on them.
  6. Carolina Panthers 3-0 (n/a)- I have seen this from the Panthers before and it has all signs of a good team with a flashy quarterback making waves at the beginning of the season only to peter off as the season goes on and falls in an early playoff game. That being said, this is one of the most fun teams to watch mainly because they practice the fundamentals and it shows up on game day.
  7. Atlanta Falcons 3-0 (6)- How? How does this team continue to find ways to win when it looks like they are being outplayed? Resilience and a never say die attitude gets you a long way in this league and matching the Panthers for wins is setting up a clash of the titans as the season goes on.
  8. Minnesota Vikings 2-1 (n/a)- Adrian Peterson needed a couple of games to shake of the field rust but you can never keep the great players down. Even when everybody on the field knows Peterson is going to get the majority of the touches, he is still able to lead the Vikings down the field. On top of that, the Vikings defense held off Philip Rivers on Sunday and that is one of the first signs that this is a team that should not be over looked.
  9. Buffalo Bills 2-1 (n/a)- Many overlooked the Bills in favor of the Dolphins being the number two team in the AFC East. Then the Jets started off strong and the Bills still got over looked. After upsetting the Colts then taking the Patriots to the limit, I think it is about time we start taking the Bills seriously.
  10. Dallas Cowboys 2-1 (9)- Slowly falling out of the rankings, the Cowboys remain in the top ten because of how tough the played against the Falcons. Yes, they did blow a big lead and probably would have won had Tony Romo been under center but who can say for sure? Dallas is going to have to play at least .500 ball until Romo gets back to have a shot at the playoffs but considering the division they are in, that is not an insurmountable achievement.
