by

Saint Louis University Billikens (2-0) vs. Akron Zips (3-1)

Date: Friday, September 11

Time: 6:00 PM

Billiken Beginnings: The Billikens have gotten off to a solid start this 2015 season scoring four goals in its first two contests to accumulate a 2-0 record. In its season opener against a Tulsa team who’s receiving votes in the NSCAA Coaches Poll, the Billikens went level into double overtime before Vince Cicciarelli notched the game winner. Then, last Friday at home, the Billikens topped the Memphis Tigers after tallying three second half goals for a 3-0 victory.

Scouting Akron: The Zips are on the cusp of the NSCAA Coaches Poll, currently receiving 57 votes after posting two road victories against ranked opponents: Georgetown (No. 4) and Maryland (No. 6). Akron’s only loss this season came on the road to No. 22 Old Dominion in a 4-1 defeat.

Cicciarelli Catches Fire: Senior forward Vince Cicciarelli has scored three of the team’s four goals so far this season, which has earned him back-to-back A-10 Player of the Week accolades. Cicciarelli is the first Billiken since Will John in 2004 to earn consecutive player of the week awards.

Roster Returns: Freshman forward Nash Popovic will make the return to the Billiken squad in time for Friday’s road match after departing to Serbia with the U.S. U-20 Men’s National Teams for a series of matches. Popovic played 26 minutes in SLU’s overtime win at Tulsa on August 28.
