Cardinals Activate Matt Adams From DL; DFA Nick Greenwood

by Press Release

The St. Louis Cardinals announced today that they have activated first baseman Matt Adams from the 60-day disabled list. In order to make room for Adams on the 40-man roster, left-handed pitcher Nick Greenwood was designated for assignment.

Adams, 27, has been out since May 27 with a right quad strain that required surgery (May 29). Prior to the injury, Adams was hitting .243 (35-144) with seven doubles, four home runs, 20 RBI and five game-winning RBI for the club. Adams missed 91 games on the D.L.

Greenwood had been recalled to St. Louis twice this season, but did not appear in a game either time. At Memphis the 27-year-old began the season pitching in relief but started his final 19 games. Overall he compiled a 13-6 record with a 5.79 ERA in 32 games, 22 starts.
