Perez Strong, Offense Falters In 2-1 Loss

Peoria, IL-The Peoria Chiefs offense only managed one run against a trio of Wisconsin pitchers in a 2-1 loss to the Timber Rattlers Friday night. The loss snaps a three-game winning streak and drops the Chiefs to 34-19 on the second half and 67-54 overall and leaves Peoria’s magic number at six to clinch a playoff spot.

Wisconsin took the lead in the top of the third against Chiefs starter Dewin Perez. Luis Aviles led off and drove Perez’s 1-0 pitch over the left field wall for the 1-0 Timber Rattlers lead.

The Chiefs tied it up in the fourth against Wisconsin starter Cody Ponce. Oscar Mercado led off with a double and scored on a single by Paul DeJong to tie the game 1-1.

The Timber Rattlers regained the lead in the fifth. With two out Sthervin Matos reached on an error by Alex DeLeon and advanced to second when Blake Allemand walked. Matos scored on a single by Elvis Rubio for the 2-1 Wisconsin lead.

Perez (2-5) took the loss for the Chiefs, going seven innings and allowing two runs, one earned, on six hits and one walk, striking out a career-high nine. Jery Then pitched two shutout innings, allowing one hit and striking out two.
