The St. Louis Rams selected Missouri Tiger wide receiver Bud Sasser in the sixth round with the 201st overall pick. Today they waived the 6’2”, 210 pound wide out for a pre-existing heart condition that was flagged on his physical.
Filed to ESPN: Sources: Rams plan to release WR Bud Sasser today after he was unable to get cleared physically because of a heart condition.
Because Sasser was not a combine invite, the Rams (and every other team) did not have any opportunity to go through full medical tests.
In a kind gesture by the Rams, Sasser did sign his rookie contract in which he collects a little less than $114,000. According to NFL insider Ian Rapoport Sasser sought multiple opinions, but was not cleared to play.
In his time at Missouri Sasser contributed solid numbers. As a senior he caught 77 receptions for 1,003 yards and 12 touchdowns.
The Rams are left with Tavon Austin, Stedman Bailey, Chris Givens, Brian Quick, and Kenny Britt.
It is a sad story for Sasser and you hate this to happen to such a good guy. Here’s to hoping he has success outside of football.
