Elimination Chamber Reflection

by

This is not so much a recap, being it’s been two days since Elimination Chamber and I assume, if you are reading this, you already know what happened. I decided to write the reflection the day after Raw because I think the day after the PPV is just as important.

Tag Team Elimination Chamber Match

I feel like this match could have been better but I think y0u can chalk that up to a new environment for most of participants. I liked that there was an attempt made to get the Ascension over as a dangerous team but there is just something about them I cannot take seriously.  The surprise to me was the Prime Time Players. I thought they were nothing more than a number to be in the chamber match, but being a final two team, and making the save on Raw when Dolph was out numbered seems to show they are gunning for the tag titles, which I think they deserve. Titus has the physique of a guy who could fight for the world championship but not quite the character. I don’t think anyone really came out looking strong except New Day who shows that as long as they have the numbers, they won’t be losing any time soon.

Kevin Owens Vs John Cena

Easily match of the night.  I never really followed Owens in the indie scene but like I said in my preview column, I am glued to the screen any time he has a mic in his hand. This is a match I felt he couldn’t lose but didn’t honestly think he would win, let alone win clean. This was his first match on the big stage and he pulled out some really impressive moves that I have not seen, even in NXT. The jumping moonsault was flawless and I love seeing a guy his size move the way he does. This seems to be the age of the agile big men and it is really refreshing.  His promo after the match was such a slap in the face to Cena and brilliant does not even begin to cover how magical of a promo it was. He even made a rehashed promo of not being his kids hero seem fascinating. Mark this moment; this is the time you begin to get tired of me hyping Kevin Owens.

Neville Vs Bo Dallas

I said this match would steal the show and it had the unfortunate placement of following the best match on the card. I was a bit to hyped to really pay attention to this match and on a re-watch, it was a bit to generic. It did not have a lot of hype, nothing was on the line. Just seemed like a reason to let Neville get a win so it seems like he should be the Money in the Bank match.

Nikki Vs Naomi Vs Paige

Women’s Championship match

I didn’t want to be right about this one. It was hard to watch. The moves wern’t fluid and seemed like there was a lot of waiting for the next spot. A couple of the cool moves seemed botched and Brie coming out after Nikki won was just…weird. If anyone is going to remember this match, it is for all the wrong reasons.

Elimination Chamber Intercontinental Championship

No one knows for sure if this was a botch fest or not. The real stand out moment is when Mark Henry’s chamber broke and I am still unsure if it was meant to or not. At first I thought it was meant to happen but as the match went on it seemed like no one was real sure what to do. Sheamus’ pod not opening had me questioning the legtimacy of the match again but when he pulled the cross out, I thought it was genius. Just an absolute heel moment to force himself stuck in his pod until everyone was just moments away from being pinned. Interesting that King Barrett was first one eliminated and the poor guy can’t seem to get a win. He started getting poplar with his “bad news” gimmick and catch phrase but I guess that moved on from that. I had a gut feeling Ryback was going to win, but I just could not pull the trigger on really predicting that. I am really happy to see him get a title around his waist. I think he is a hard worker who has the crowd behind him

WWE World Heavyweight Championship

Seth Rollins Vs Dean Amrbose

I knew this match was going to be just as good as I thought it was going to be. Dean fighting off the authority lackeys brought me back to when Stone Cold would have to take out multiple members of the corporation before finally being able to get the pin. There were no major surprises during the match and Roman being banned from ringside really made me think a heel turn was coming. Instead, they really fooled me by doing nothing with the plot line. Alas, we got a rare sighting of a ref bump. Something I took note of the first time I watched TNA and noticed how rare there were not and days. This ref bump however led to the screwy finish. It was an odd feeling seeing another ref come down and count to three. I was watching with my brother and we both just kind of sat in disbelief. Not really joy, but just real “he didn’t really win” feeling. I felt bad that I couldn’t get more excited. I read that a lot of people really thought he won but the smark in me knew that the ref bump wasn’t for nothing and instead was a good reason to keep the title on Rollins. While a odd finish that in the scheme of things doesn’t make a lot of sense, still a creative one.

Money in the Bank is shaping up to be a tad predictable. Join me next week as I break down just how predictable it is.
